Balance is an often-overlooked component of good tennis. Balance is important because, when your body is off balance, it uses many muscles to try to balance itself.
Usually these muscles contradict the muscles and movements needed to hit the ball correctly. That’s why you often miss when you are off balance: your body just cannot move the way you want it to.

March 21, 2013I like it, but for real young beginners it will be difficult to deal with horizontal sent balls (distance). What is your suggested drills for them?
admin
March 21, 2013Hi Parmet,
For really young beginners I suggest you play on the ground and actually roll the ball on the ground – possibly a foam one. Then you can practice the same drill.
But for older ones – as long as they can rally at any distance, they can apply this drills and try to hold balance on one leg after the shot.

September 21, 2013Hi,
There are no specific exercises needed if you’re going to start with mini tennis and look to play with feel and control rather than with power.

February 28, 2015I liked this exercise because you need to find your balance. By picking up on leg while maintaining your balance will improve your balancing.

May 9, 2015I was confused by you saying an open or closed stance – you mean when the feet are mostly together of spread apart?
Tomaz
May 17, 2015Closed or neutral stance is when the feet are one behind another and open stance is where they are more paralel to each other.

May 15, 2015Thanks, I think it will probably help with improving timing and relaxing the shots too.

March 12, 2016Thank you so much for providing this online tennis instruction resource. I am a new high school tennis coach. Even though I am a former collegiate tennis player, coaching the first high school tennis program in our district is exciting and yet can be overwhelming. Your online instruction videos demonstrate sound stroke techniques and are well articulated. Again, thank you on behalf of our new high school tennis program and our new student-athletes to the life-long sport of tennis!
